Story

Considering the sultry feel of Seth Power’s music, it’s no surprise he grew up just east of “The City With Soul,” otherwise known as Jackson, Mississippi. A talented singer-songwriter with music reminiscent of Ed Sheeran and John Mayer’s early catalogs, Seth combines modern pop melodies with soft rock and bluesy undertones. When playing solo, Seth utilizes a loop station, a device that allows him to create a larger sound than most one-man shows are capable of producing. With a few stomps of his foot, he’s able to layer tracks in real-time and showcase his lead guitar skills; an approach that gives his audience a more holistic experience.

While attending college, Seth honed his talents as a performer by playing 4 and 5-hour sets for hundreds of college students in downtown Starkville, home to Mississippi State University. His devotion paid off and he went on to open for Rock & Roll legends and land on festival bills with Grammy winners. He also landed a coveted spot on the hit show, American Idol, where he was praised by Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan following his first audition in front of the judges.

In November of 2019, Seth signed with Toucan Cove Entertainment, and in January of 2020, he released Souvenir, a 14-song album full of lush soundscapes, captivating melodies, and timeless songs. This is just the beginning for Seth Power though. As 2020 unfolds, he’ll be releasing an acoustic EP that contains several songs from Souvenir, as well as a documentary series that details the making of the album. Prior to the Covid-19 outbreak, Seth was in the process of touring the Southeast and booking a nationwide college tour. Once states begin to reopen and school is back in session, the tour will be rescheduled and new dates will be released to the public.

Press release for “Going Somewhere.”

With the release of his new single, Seth Power taps into a story from his past. “Going Somewhere” is packed with captivating melodies and luscious guitar work, but according to Power, the most unique part of the song lies in its production. “Over the last year, so much has changed,” says Seth, “I had a lot of time to write and consider how I want to move forward as an artist. I love natural instrumentation and I’ll always have a guitar strapped to me when I perform, but I really wanted to branch out with this song. When I was writing it, I knew there was potential for it to be portrayed in a more modern way, so I set out to find someone who could help me with that.” Enter Arthur Pingrey, a world class multi-instrumentalist and music producer who has worked on eight Oscar winning or nominated films. He has also worked with a wide range of artists including Sia, Norah Jones, Jim Jones, and Sting. “Teaming up with Arthur really changed the game for me,” says Power, “we’re going to make a lot of music together in the coming months!” Aside from Pingrey, Power also teamed up with Nashville songwriter and Hall of Fame inductee, Walt Aldridge. Aldridge worked at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals for 17 years and has a slew of hit songs in his discography. “Walt REALLY pushed me. I thought we were going to sit in a room together while Walt picked my brain and wrote out golden lyrics for the song, but it was the exact opposite. Walt forced me to write almost every single line myself and answered every one of my questions with another question. It became clear that I wasn’t participating in a true co-write. I was getting something even better. I was being taught how to become a better songwriter. I think that, when you hear this song, you can tell that I was really searching for the perfect lines. The story feels so complete and so true to me, and I feel like everyone can identify with the feeling of finding love and then having it ripped away. It’s a real gut-wrenching experience, and I wanted the vocal delivery to capture that pain. I’m really proud of how it came out.”

Seth’s new song was recorded in Jackson, MS and created in partnership with Toucan Cove Entertainment. Fans can find the song on all major streaming and purchasing platforms. To learn more about Seth, follow him on Instagram and TikTok.

Toucan Cove Recording Artist, Seth Power, released his debut album, Souvenir, on January 10th, 2020. Seth’s young career began in 2017 with the release of his self-produced EP, Magnolia Soul, a 6-song project that has accumulated more than 6 million streams across several platforms and earned an ‘Album of the Year’ award from Jamendo, an independent artist platform with a large listening base. According to Seth, the process of recording Magnolia Soul gave him the knowledge and experience necessary to dive into his first full-length project, Souvenir. The album contains a collection of 14 songs, all written and recorded over the span of the last two years. Seth’s inspiration for some of the songs date back even further than that though, a fact that he discusses in the documentary series devoted to the making of the record. Souvenir - the last 7 years, will be out later this year and allow fans a much deeper look into Seth’s life, the making of the album, and the various sources of inspiration required to craft it. Following the album’s release, Seth went on a tour of the Southeast to promote the record, but it was cut short due to COVID-19. Fans can expect to see him touring again as soon as it becomes safe, with venues and dates being released in the near future. Seth is preparing to do a college circuit as well, playing at campuses all over the country. Stay tuned for more from Seth Power, and in the meantime, enjoy the new music!
